What is the distance in the shot? (How close or far away are you from your subject?)
With the split column picture in the lower right hand corner, I pressed my body as far into the corner as it could go and just pointed my camera up.
What was your point of view when you took the photos? (from above, below, straight on...)
For my photo in the top left, I sat on the floor and shot up towards the ceiling
As we discussed in class, how did you "make the ordinary extraordinary?"
In the bottom center photo, I made the shadows and highlights so drastic to really have this light-in-the-dark effect
Did you consider the rule of thirds to compose your shots? In which photos? Describe.
For my photos, if I'm being honest, I didn't really care about the law of thirds as I appreciated the natural symmetry of the subjects
Which one of of your photos is a dynamic composition that successfully leads the viewer’s eye through the work?
I would personally say that the photo in the top left is the most dynamic because of the texture from the wood and the pattern of the ceiling creates a nice pattern as it radiates from the same point; the column
Pattern and Texture
How did you move beyond subject matter and make your images deal with surface quality, not just the subject of the image? I tried to focus on the natural texture and lines on the wood itself, and focus less on the lines on the bench the wood was apart of. Which of your images do you feel is the most captivating? Do you feel the lighting conditions made an impact on the quality of the images? Personally, I really like the photo of the leaves (in the top left) due to the fact that the leaves in the forefront are out of focus while the sun shines through the ones in the middle, drawing attention to them. If you could shoot one of them over again, which one would it be and why? I would retake the photo of the stools (bottom right) to focus more on the texture of the legs - like the paint chipping and the rust
Playgrounds and Power Lines
Did you consider the rule of thirds to compose your shots? In which photos? Describe. I would say the photos that best exemplify the rule of thirds would be the top left, bottom left, and bottom middle, as the subject is usually either on the left or right side of the photo. Which one of of your photos is a dynamic composition that successfully leads the viewer’s eye through the work? I would say the top middle photo is the most dynamic as it moves from the left of the photo in the foreground to the middle of the photo in the background. Which image do you feel contains the best play of organic and geometric shapes? The bottom middle photo has the best shapes due to the metal framework of the tower and the straightness of the powerlines. Which image do you feel best satisfies the assignment? Why? I feel that the bottom left best satisfies the assignment as it follows the law of thirds and also contrasts the natural world with the geometric industrial world as show by the power lines. I also like the angle I took it at.
